Hogan Cup

The Hogan Cup ((アイルランド語:Corn Uí Ógáin)) 1946-48 & 1957-) is the cup presented to the winners of the colleges (schools) All-Ireland "A" senior football championship, the top level Gaelic football championship for secondary schools in Ireland. The competition itself is regularly referred to by reference to the trophy's name.
St. Jarlath's College, Tuam hold the record number of titles, winning their twelfth in 2002, and have appeared as runners-up in a further fourteen finals. Second overall on the roll of honour, are eight-times champions St. Colman's, Newry, who in 2011 retained the title for the first time in their history with victory over St Jarlath's College. In contrast to St. Jarlath's, St. Colman's have been runners-up only twice in ten finals appearances. St Patrick's, Maghera, have won the trophy five times and two others have won it four times.
The current holders are Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, Dingle, who won the cup for the first time in 2014 and retained it in 2015.
Inaugurated in 1946, this cup is named after Brother Thomas Hogan.(The Hogan Stand in Croke Park is named after his brother Michael Hogan). Since its beginning, there have been two different cups presented, the original cup was last presented in 1960, and now resides in St Jarlath's College, with a newly designed cup replacing it in 1961.〔Buckley, pg. 30-32〕
The format of the competition mirrors that of the pre 2001 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship . The four schools winning their provincial championship compete in two semi finals and a final, which is held late in the school year. To increase participation the Colleges All-Ireland senior "B" championship (holders being St. Pius X College Magherafelt) and was created in 1975, and a senior "C" championship commenced in 2000.〔Buckley, pg. 234-235〕
